What a Fun Week!!!

Happy Friday!  As we close out another week, I must say I love what I do.  I had a wonderful opportunity to work with some amazing vendors on a Bridal Photo Shoot for Hair and Make-up Stylist Monica of Monica Duldulao Professional Hair and Makeup.  She always looks stunning!

When Monica reached out to me about the photo shoot, I was very honored and excited to join the photo shoot team to create the flowers and design and décor for the shoot.  Monica wanted to highlight three looks for the photo shoot.  She wanted to do an Elegant look that focused on crystals, a Bohemian look which focused on color, and lastly a Rustic look.  I want to show you a sneak peak behind the scenes.

If this chandelier is any indicator of how beautiful the photo shoot was, you are correct.  I absolutely love this accent which is very edgy.

One of our beautiful models Ruby and Photographer Joan Fuller of Joan Fuller Photography.

Our Bouquet created for the Elegant look.  I added a little bling to the look to pull in the bling elements for the photos shoot.

Also, look a the beautiful jewelry on the model’s wrist and in her hair created by Dvnchi Bridal Accessories

Our other beautiful model Vanessa adorning our Bohemian look.   I wanted to use flowers from the flower crown to tie the bouquet to the overall look.

I love the way the bridal crown came out and check out those eyes.  Monica you have done it!

Lastly our Rustic look.  I love how the bouquet and boutonniere came out.

I can say it was a wonderful day!  Are you ready for more to come?

I appreciate your support and stopping by my blog.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  This weekend will be busy for me, I am attending tree trimming tonight and I am so excited, and then tomorrow will have rehearsal all day prepping for our big Christmas play on Sunday.  I have been directing the play for the past 3 years and it is an absolute joy in working with our Children’s ministry.  I’ll share more next week.

Aleshea and Robert’s Wedding Day

I had a blast working with my couple Aleshea and Robert to create a event they would remember a lifetime celebrated around the 4th of July.

I was able to work with the couple during their entire planning process.  I always ask my couple what memories they want to walk away with at the end or their wedding day and they wanted to ensure that they included their son Carter during their vows, they wanted to incorporate Aleshea’s Jamaican heritage in the food, and lastly they wanted their guests to have a great time all night. Let’s take a look at this beautiful event….

The ceremony and reception were held at one of my favorite venues in Saint Louis, the Sheldon Concert Hall.  It’s so full of rich history.

The day started off with a nice brisk breeze and clear skies truly a day fit for a wonderful celebration such as this.  Notice the Arch in the background another one of Saint Louis’ famous landmarks.

One thing apparent when working with the couple, was the love that the two shared between the two of them and the zeal for life and loving one another.  Hence is where the theme evolved.  The bride wanted to use famous couples that demonstrate a lasting love.  So I said let’s go with the tagline and theme of “The Perfect Couple” which was added to the seating chart, menu cards, and table numbers.

Aleshea chose the color palette of an eggplant purple which we paired with a platinum silver.  The bridesmaids wore platinum dresses all if different styles to suit their personality while the guys wore black tuxedos with platinum vests.

The bride wore this beautiful gown with just a touch of bling and shoes with another little touch of bling.  So classic and beautiful.

Aleshea looked absolutely stunning and her make-up was flawless with her eyes and lips donned in the perfect shade of purple.

And how cute is this little tuxedo that was worn by Master Carter, the couple’s son.  Can you say adorable.

When working on the overall design concept the bride wanted simple elegance.  So I created this look by draping columns in purple fabric and I created baby’s breath arrangements and added to the columns to soften the design.  I then added lots of candles on the floor and then I sprinkled purple rose petals on the floor.  This was all against a white draped backdrop with purple uplighting.  We brought the lights down a bit and had a very romantic setting.

Once the I Do’s were over the bridal party was swept off to take some offsite pictures.  The Lance, the photographer of Lance Omar Thurman Photography was awesome.  He has a wonderful eye in capturing candid photos that demonstrates the essence of the ones being photographed.  I think that these were some awesome shots!

Then it was party time!

To cap the night off all the guests went to the rooftop to see the fireworks over the city and to set off a few sparklers themselves.

I loved working with the couple and a big congrats to Aleshea and Robert!

I worked with some wonderful vendors and enjoyed partnering with them.

It’s Wedding Season

Wow, what a couple of crazy months but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are definitely in the midst of wedding season and I am having so much fun. I’ve spent the past few weeks working with brides and ensuring that their wedding day is every thing they dreamt it would be. I had so much fun with my 4th of July bride. Check out the beautiful bouquet I created for her.

I think this is going to become an Erika’s Elegance tradition because I had a 4th of July bride last year, what do you think?  If you know a 4th of July bride coming up, send them my way. Well I have a few more weddings this month and I can’t wait. This one coming up this weekend will be a nature theme.

Can’t wait to connect with you again soon and share more details.

Erika’s Elegance Custom Journals

When I first moved out to California I was amazed at how many people kept a journal. It was fascinating and yet intriguing. I was impressed to see the many beautiful journals people had that often reflected their personality.

It wasn’t until my dear friend Shamilla reached out to me to create a journal for her that I totally got into the whole journal thing. Shamilla is an author who is an avid writer and is very passionate about journaling. I thank her for helping me to tap into my creativity to create a collection of journals that other’s may be able to enjoy.

Welcome to my collection…

My Bridal journal, created for the Bride-to-Be.  It was designed for the bride to keep in her purse and have all of her planning information at her fingertips.  This journal has all of the vendor numbers in one place and provides 12, 9, 6, 4, 3, 2,  and 1 month  timeline checklists,

This is my Breast Cancer journal.  A portion of the proceeds go to Breast Cancer Research.  My inspiration for this was my Auntie Louvenia my mother’s sister who is like a mother and my Aunt Betty who is my dad’s sister, who lost her battle.  I wanted to honor those who have fought so bravely and to help support the cause.  This journal has all of your important doctor and cancer support numbers, cancer resources, and motivational information.

Sophisticated Lady was inspired by my mother.  My mother is flawlessly beautiful inside and out.  She is truly a woman of God and has always taught us Godly principle growing up.  She is truly a model of a person growing old gracefully.  Her smile illuminates the room and she has style out of this world.  I can’t keep up with her, she is Mrs. Fashionista!

The Walking into my Destiny journal was inspired by my sissy as I affectionately call her, Shawnte’.  I am so very proud of the woman she has become.  I am the oldest and am very protective over her.  I have watched her grow into a wonderful young woman. She is an awesome wife, mother and mighty  woman of God.  I just love her.  My sister and I love shoes and often try each other’s shoes on.  So what better idea than to create a journal for two of my loves.  This journal is so fun and I would definitely rock all of these shoes.

Let your Light Shine was inspired by my little sister Lezlie.  I actually did her version with a red dress because she’s a Delta.  Lezlie is such a beautiful young woman and I have watch her grow and she just emits light everywhere she goes.  She exudes elegance, class and lovingness.  Can you tell I love my sisters :).

The Success journal was inspired by my God sister Kim.  It speaks of stature and position.  Kim is very driven and has become so successful.  I am so proud to see her evolve into the young woman she has become.  She is running the corporate world.  This is for the person who is striving to reach their best potential.

My Cup Runneth Over was created for the coffee lover and is inspired by one of my favorite passages Psalms 23.

I Love Bags was designed because of my love for handbags.  It is for the person who has journeyed through life and has a story to tell.  You can go through things in life and still come out beautiful.

This last collection was designed because of my BFF Shondalette who is a die hard Delta.  I wanted to create something cute and sophisticated that she could use at her meetings.  I then expanded it to include other sororities.

I’ve also had a chance to create a couple of custom journals for clients which is always exciting.

Mahajan__White_Rabbit_Photo_Boutique_MahajanShower13 IMG_5148

The Peacock Journal which doubled as a baby book and was created for a Peacock themed baby shower I planned and the Ladybug journal that I created for my Author friend Shamilla.

I realized that in creating the journals, we all have stories that help shape and pattern our lives. Even if you aren’t an author, your story should be passed down to your kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. You don’t know how what you’ve experience can help someone else.

My collection can be found on Etsy. This can make a wonderful custom gift for someone, remember Mother’s Day is coming up.  I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Are you journaling your journey?

It’s a Bride’s Life!

Wedding season is here. The rush to find the perfect venue; finding the perfect centerpieces; adding last minute guests to your list; to attending a cake tasting for a cake you’ll only take a bite out of on your special day. At times it may seem a little overwhelming with planning every detail to your perfect wedding.

There is no other detail more important to a bride than her wedding dress. The wedding industry has so many gowns and styles to choose from. Ball gowns from Marchesa; Mermaid from Peter Langer; Sheaths from Angel Sanchez; Strapless from Carolina Herrera; One Shoulder and V-necks from Jenny Packham. My, oh my! What more could a girl ask for? So many wonderful bridal gown designs from fabulous designers.

Of course, no outfit would be complete without the perfect pair of shoes, to the jewelry, and to finish it off a beautiful handcrafted headpiece. Of course every girl needs her something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, but in time that will come.

Every bride wants to feel like a princess. What do you imagine yourself wearing on your wedding day? Are you a modest and classy, fun and girly, simple or dramatic kind of a bride? From Vera Wang, Azzaro and Pnina Tornai, the perfect dress awaits you.

For every girl the hunt for the perfect wedding dress can be a challenge at times. Sometimes you may feel conflicted when searching for the perfect dress. Don’t fret, take a deep breath, you just haven’t found “the dress.” When you do, you’ll know. The emotions will show through laughter and tears. Always follow your vision! Don’t settle for less.

So as the countdown to your wedding begins take one more sip from your coffee mug and as you head out the door to start your day take a moment to scream out loud “I’m Finally Getting Married” then begin to crack down and put yourself on the hunt for the perfect wedding dress.

What Kind of Bride Are You?

If you didn’t get a chance to take our “Bridal Style” test, take a few moments to look at our post from Saturday, March 8th.

So what kind of bride are you?

Ann in Crystals

If you answered:
  • Mostly A’s you’re a Classic Bride
  • Mostly B’s you’re an Eclectic Bride
  • Mostly C’s you’re a Shabby Chic Bride
  • Mostly D’s you’re a Contemporary Bride

Classic is defined as traditional, enduring simple tailored lines in fashion year after year. This style is for the bride who is very traditional. Picture yourself walking down the aisle looking like a timeless piece of beauty. This style is ranked with grace and elegance.

Eclectic is defined as deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. This style is for the bride who likes the cutting edge of things. Similar to having the clean lines such as the classic, this bride wants what’s hot!!! Love the thought of being married on the rooftop of a skyscraper and then dancing the night away in a contemporary loft style New York building? With the advance in technology, as well as, the expansion of extended families, brides have a wealth of resources at their fingertips which allows them to pull elements from all over the country or even all over the world. The key is YOU! Determine what elements are most important to you and work with your planner to create an event space of a lifetime.

Shabby Chic = Vintage with a splash of femininity!!! Shabby Chic is where items are chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear. This style is becoming very popular and can add so much character to a wedding. There are even wedding rental places that specialize in vintage items that add so much character. When I think of Shabby Chic colors I think of soft pinks, greens, distress white, and grays….soft colors.

Contemporary is for the bride who is anything but traditional. Don’t picture your guys in tuxedos? Feel more comfortable with getting married in the meadow? The options are limitless with this style. How do you achieve it? Think of everything traditional and then do the opposite. This is for the bride who likes to go against the norm.

We’d love to get your feedback on what kind of bride you will be.  Please leave us a comment!

And of course no matter what the style, adding a little bit of bling is my thing :).  At Erika’s Elegance we love pulling our client’s concepts together. We would love to give you a hand in assisting with your special day.  Contact us today!
